A le­gal bat­tle over whether May and her min­is­ters have the author­ity to in­voke Ar­ti­cle 50 with­out the ex­plicit back­ing of Par­lia­ment is likely to drag on for some time, says The Times. The Supreme Court is ex­pected to make its fi­nal de­ci­sion in De­cem­ber. If MPs are merely called on to ap­prove a deal at the end of talks, they’ll have a straight choice be­tween rat­i­fy­ing it or vot­ing it down. Were they to vote it down, Bri­tain would still leave the EU, but with­out any new trad­ing ar­range­ments in place.
