According to a Which? poll, “your call is valued” is the most irritating of all on-hold messages. The Chinese are so hooked on Scotch that obsessives are flying to the UK for £50,000 sprees. One London whisky shop told The Independent that it is visited by several Chinese men a week, who spend five-figure sums. One was so keen to get a few bottles of his chosen malt, he was willing to send his driver to the distillery, north of Aberdeen.
