Naturist shot by clothes wearer: Naturist sunbathers were forced to flee a popular beach on the French island of Corsica last week, when a local café owner used a rifle to fire lead shots at them in protest at their lack of clothes. The man, who has not been named, first threatened the sunbathers, instructing them to get dressed or leave, and then opened fire when they refused. One woman, an Italian in her 30s, was hit in her thigh as she ran away: she was not seriously injured in the attack, at Carataggio beach, near Porto-Vecchio. The group has pressed criminal charges. The beach is one of a number in France where naturism is usually tolerated, but which is also used by “textiles” (as clothes wearers are known in the nudist argot). There are about 2.6 million nudists in France, which claims to be the world leader for naturist holidays, with some 150 campsites and 120 beaches.
