Tourist caps: Dubrovnik has become the latest tourist hotspot to announce a cap on visitor numbers in a bid to avoid ruinous overcrowding. The mayor of the city, where cruise ships unload thousands of tourists at a time, has announced a daily cap of 4,000 tourists entering the old city, which will come into effect within two years. This summer has seen anti-tourist marches in Venice and Barcelona, while last week the regional government of Spain’s Balearic Islands announced new caps on the number of hotel beds and stricter rules on short-term rentals such as Airbnb.
