Ap­ple devo­tees, who fi­nally got their hands on the hotly an­tic­i­pated iPhone X. The most ex­pen­sive iPhone to date, it costs £999. Even so, in cities across the world, thou­sands of peo­ple queued up to be the first to buy one. In Tokyo, peo­ple camped out for six days.

Twit­ter users, who can now ex­tend their mes­sages to 280 char­ac­ters. The new limit is be­ing rolled out to all users, ex­cept those tweet­ing in Chi­nese, Ja­panese and Korean, be­cause they hit the 140 char­ac­ter limit less of­ten. Not all users wel­comed the move, how­ever: some said it would lead to un­wel­come ver­bosity on what is sup­posed to be a mi­cro-blog­ging site.

Cas­settes, which are the lat­est – and ar­guably most un­ex­pected – for­mat to en­joy a re­vival. An es­ti­mated 129,000 pre-recorded tapes were sold in the US last year, up from 74,000 in 2015.
