Good week for:
Apple devotees, who finally got their hands on the hotly anticipated iPhone X. The most expensive iPhone to date, it costs £999. Even so, in cities across the world, thousands of people queued up to be the first to buy one. In Tokyo, people camped out for six days.
Twitter users, who can now extend their messages to 280 characters. The new limit is being rolled out to all users, except those tweeting in Chinese, Japanese and Korean, because they hit the 140 character limit less often. Not all users welcomed the move, however: some said it would lead to unwelcome verbosity on what is supposed to be a micro-blogging site.
Cassettes, which are the latest – and arguably most unexpected – format to enjoy a revival. An estimated 129,000 pre-recorded tapes were sold in the US last year, up from 74,000 in 2015.
