Well, the sweltering summer months are almost at an end, and the events season is already getting back into the swing of things. Already, we've hosted two tasting sessions following the holiday period, and I'm pleased to report that the region's connoisseurs still have an appetite for a good cigar amongst good friends.
Our first event was held earlier in the summer, at Cooz Bar in the Grand Hyatt, Dubai. Something of a hidden gem, this jazz lounge provided the perfect atmosphere for a low-key tasting session, which you can read about on p44. Later on in the summer, we took over the Cigar Lounge at The Fairmont hotel on The Palm. This astonishing venue is a favourite among cigar-lovers in the Emirates — you can read about why that is in our report on p56.
In our downtime we've also been busy enjoying ourselves. As a thought excercise, we decided to test out a number of special editions from Romeo y Julieta. You can read our thoughts on these sticks on p60. And, of course, we've kept our ears to the ground so that we can bring you the latest in cigar industry news.
Away from the world of cigars, it turns out that the summer hasn't left us much time to think. Over the last few months, we've wing-walked on old biplanes (p22), gone on safari in Namibia (p26), as well as delved deep into the Middle East's plans for space exploration. We also report back from one of the most exclusive hotels in London (p76), and test drive the new Audi S7 (p82).
Finally, I highly recommend reading this issue's article from Simon Chase, our resident cigar expert (p50). Through research he's been conducting, he has traced the history of the aluminium cigar tube — a story that comes with healthy doses of drama and excitement.
While our summer hasn't been quite as dramatic, it's certainly been a busy and exciting one, and now that the weather is cooling down, we're looking forward to facing the new season head-on.
