Into the deep
Trailer for Blancpain ambassador Laurent Ballesta’s documentary unveiled.
A teaser trailer was recently released for the film, The Grouper Mystery, a documentary made with Blancpain ambassador Laurent Ballesta with support from the watch manufacturer.
The film is based on the Gombessa II deep-diving expedition undertaken by Ballesta The first images from that expedition were shown at the October 2014 Blancpain Ocean Commitment event in Antibes. And earlier in the summer, the official teaser trailer for the documentary was premiered on the European TV channel ARTE.
Gombessa II,THE Grouper Mystery took place at the South pass of the atoll of Fakarava, in the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia. The heart of the mission was to capture a unique aggregation of marbled groupers of the Pacific and illustrate how their spawning plays a key role in the balance of the lagoon ecosystem.
Thousands of the fish somehow hear a deep call once a year on the July full moon, to come aggregate and mate for an extremely brief and spectacular moment. Ballesta did a 24-hour exploration dive at a depth of more than 20 metre to study this wild ecosystem.
The video clip is available to view now on Blancpain’s website. The watch brand says that an English-language teaser will be available soon, thought has not said when to expect it.
