Buena Vista Reserva 2008
The story of the Buena Vista Reserva 2008 is an interesting one. It was created in 2009, but due to problems with the business, 200,000 of them sat in a warehouse until 2013, when the company was taken over by MGM Cigars. The sublime was then re-released last year, as a pre-aged premium cigar – the wrapper comes from Ecuador (but is a Cuban seed), while the binder and filler are both Dominican.
In terms of flavour, the Reserva is a light to medium-bodied cigar. The first third yields notes of light spice, wood and sweetness. There’s a citrusy aspect to the flavour profile, too, but those notes are difficult to detect and come and go. In the second third, the light smoke becomes a little more creamy, and a light cedar note becomes more pronounced. And in the final third, the spiciness returns with a vengeance, but it’s balanced out by softer sweet notes and a solid wood base.
