Puro Sabor dates set
Nicaragua cigar festival to take place in January 2016.
The fifth edition of Puro Sabor, the annual cigar festival of Nicaragua, will take place from 12 to 16 January, 2016, the Nicaragua Tobacco Association (NTA) announced over the summer.
With the festival less than half-a-year away, the NTA has already drawn up itineraries so that visitors will know what to expect when they arrive. There’s a selection of cigar factory and tobacco field tours, as well as meet-and-greets with the country’s top cigar makers. Needless to say, many of the top Nicaraguan brands will also have their own plans for the event.
On the first day, visitors will be welcomed at the airport’s VIP lounge, and will be driven from there to the festival’s venue hotel for registration. The NTA says that, upon arrival, visitors will also receive promotional products designed specifically for the event.
Day two is the start of the festival proper, with tours running to Chichigalpa, the cradle town for the best Nicaraguan rum, Flor de Cana. Later on in the day, visitors will be taken to the El Rosario farm, which will offer, organisers say, a suitable environment to enjoy a pairing of tobacco and 18-year-old Centenario rum. A Spanish equestrian show will also be put on. The day will be rounded off with a tasting night dubbed Puro Humo.
The third day will include a tour to Etseli, Nicaragua’s capital city of tobacco. Lunch will be served at the Tavicusa factory plantations, where the Rocky Patel brand is based. Tobacco industry insiders will also be on hand to explain the cigar manufacturing process. Afterwards, visitors will be given tours of a number of factories, including AJ Fernandez, Drew Estate Tobacco Company, Joya de Nicaragua, and Padron, to name a few. The fall of night will see the traditional White Party begin.
The final day sees tours of plantations around the country, with lunch being served a stone’s throw away from where a number of Nicaraguan cigars are hand-rolled. The final evening will see a Dinner Gala and auction, with proceeds going towards the neediest people of Esteli.
