New flag­ship

David­off opens the doors to its re­designed Flag­ship Store in Basel.

David­off opened the dors of its new Flag­ship Store in the heart of Basel ear­lier this sum­mer, with a re­designed in­te­rior that re­flects the com­pany’s his­tory, as well as looks to the fu­ture.

Ac­cord­ing to David­off, the Flag­ship Store was de­signed in ac­cor­dance with the new glob­ally stan­dard­ised con­cept “David­off of Geneva—since 1911”.

“We are de­lighted to open our new Flag­ship Store in our home­town of Basel. The chal­lenge in de­sign­ing this unique cigar shop was to pre­serve the com­pany’s his­tory while con­tin­u­ing our mis­sion to delight and sur­prise our cus­tomers world­wide by de­liv­er­ing unique brands and un­ri­valled re­tail ex­pe­ri­ences,” said Hans-kris­tian Hoe­js­gaard, CEO of Oet­tinger David­off AG.

“This par­tic­u­lar Flag­ship Store is very im­por­tant in our points-of-sale net­work and marks a new trend in our estab­lish­ment in the Swiss mar­ket. The of­fi­cial open­ing on June 11, 2015 is cer­tainly one of those very spe­cial mo­ments in life that merit tak­ing the time to cel­e­brate and en­joy the very best,” added Al­bert Man­zone, se­nior vice pres­i­dent for Europe at Oet­tinger David­off AG.

The new store, in the his­tor­i­cal build­ing at Rhein­sprung 5/Eisen­gasse boasts around 128 sq m of space, in­clud­ing a 21 sq m walk-in hu­mi­dor. The 40 sq m mod­ern cigar lounge, mean­while, is dec­o­rated with Bo­hemian glass pieces from Dechem stu­dio and with art work from Mónica Fer­reras de la Maza, and Jorge Pineda, who were the first Do­mini­can artists to col­lab­o­rate with David­off and its art pro­gram, the David­off Art Ini­tia­tive.

The store, over­look­ing the river Rhein, has been trans­formed into a re­tail space thatis at once el­e­gant, con­tem­po­rary, and warm. It fea­tures a unique lounge full of am­biance, where cus­tomers can re­lax. Its exclusive in­te­rior design has been re­alised in part­ner­ship with Poltrona Frau, and com­bines the Dezza model from the 1960s, orig­i­nal lounge chairs from 1919 (used by cigar afi­ciona­dos in the 1920s), the “Al­bero” li­brary fur­ni­ture by Frat­tini (a reis­sue of the 1950s mod­els) with the fa­mous chan­de­lier Light For­est from On­twer­p­duo.

Fif­teen pri­vate lock­ers fit­ted with hu­mi­dors will be avail­able for VIP cus­tomers to store their cigars in per­fect con­di­tion.
