All black

It’s not rocket science: black has always been a particularly flattering, impeccably smart choice. But this winter the anti-colour is particularly sharp, with a range of sleek black-on-black suits and separates making head-to-toe immersion not just possible, but extremely appealing.

Chelsea boots

Versatile, stylish and supremely easy to slip on and kick off, the Chelsea boot had its first big pop culture moment as part of the 1960s mod movement. Now it’s set for another one, thanks to Saint Laurent, Berluti and RM Williams, among others.

Tonal greys

It’s time to think again about grey, now available in a rich variety of shades and textures, thanks to the likes of Lanvin and Calvin Klein Collection. Assemble and combine at will, mixing different shades for a sophisticated depth of colour from head to toe.

British fabrics

Born in the UK, worn the world over: classic tailoring fabrics such as pinstripe, Prince of Wales check, herringbone, houndstooth and tweed are in the ascendant once more. Look out for them in unexpected items such as Mr Riccardo Tisci’s pinstripe shirts and ties at Givenchy.

The 1970s

Ready yourself for heady cocktail of Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie, Starsky and Hutch (the original) and the early days of punk, realised through brown and mustard-heavy palettes, wide collars, ankle-length outerwear and outrageous glam-rock accents.
