Sweet and spicy
Davidoff invites aficionados to the Fairmont the Palm to sample the newly launched Escurio range, which was inspired by rio de janeiro
Davidoff recently hosted adicionados at the Fairmont the Palm, Dubai, for an evening of innovation and excitement. The night was aimed at offering Dubai-based cigar-lovers a taste of Davidoff’s new Escurio range. Inspired by Zino Davidoff’s pioneering spirit, the brand says that the Escurio range is a continuation of its mission to allow the modern aficionado to experience innovative, unique blends and unforgettable cigars.
This mission, Davidoff says, led it to create the Escurio, a Brazilian cigar that delivers an intense, spicy-sweet palate stimulation, coupled with the signature Davidoff refinement. Davidoff found inspiration for the blend in Rio, the soul of Brazil, and the rhythms, intrigue, and rich experiences of the city’s nights. The cigar is supposed to mimic an adventurous evening in Rio, carrying smokers
along on a taste adventure with unexpected twists and turns.
The event gathered over 100 cigar aficionados, and they were in for a pretty unique experience. At the entrance of the Fairmont Palm the well-dressed hostesses, wearing black dresses and green scarves (the Escurio colours), asked each guest which taste profile they preferred—sweet or spicy. Upon answering, the guests were handed yellow rubber bracelet if they chose sweet, and a green one if they chose spicy. The journey of taste then started with two kinds of chocolate—one sweet and one spicy.
Inside the Escurio-branded lounge, the cocktails offered were also sweet and spicy. The story continued with the food canapés (serving up the same taste profiles) until the Davidoff revealed the Escurio cigars.
The new range comes in three formats—a petit robusto at 3 ¼ inches and a ring gauge of 50; a robusto at 4 ½ inches and a ring gauge of 54; and a gran toro at 5 ½ inches and a ring gauge of 58.
The Davidoff Escurio Robusto was rated the best cigar in the Cigar Journal’s spring blind tasting and got a 93 rating prior to launching in markets: “A true sweet meets spice experience, an overall masterpiece, an explosion of different notes comparable to a flavour encyclopedia,” states Cigar Journal’s review.
Moreover, quantitative blind taste panels conducted in Germany and the USA on the new Escurio range have rated the cigar consistently as one of the best cigars ever tested amongst its Cuban, Dominican, Nicaraguan and other tobacco origins.
The aficionados at the Dubai event concurred with this analysis, with each of the guests enjoying the spicysweet flavours of the Escurio range. Certainly, this Rioinspired cigar gained a number of new fans throughout the evening.
