All the Action from this year’s Puro sabor festival del tabaco in nicaragua
Cigar Connoisseurs from around the world last month descended on estelí, the nicaraguan capital of tobacco, for the fifth Puro sabor festival del Tabaco, which ran from January 12 to 16.
on the first day, guests were welcomed at the airport´s VIP lounge, before settling into hotels and getting a feel for their stunning surroundings. The festival started in earnest on the second day, which involved culture, history, art and flavours.
Visitors travelled to Chichigalpa, the cradle town for the best nicaraguan rum and world-class brand flor de Caña. Later on during the day they visited farm el rosario, which offered a suitable environment to enjoy a paring of tobacco and Centenario rum. To close the day, guests headed to the venue hotel to experience what organisers called “Puro Humo”, a top-notch tasting night.
The third day involved a tour of estelí.
Lunch was provided in front of a gorgeous panoramic view at the Tavicusa factory plantations, where the Rocky Patel brand comes to life. Afterwards came a grand tour of the factories where the best Nicaraguan cigars are created: AJ Fernandez, Drew Estate Tobacco Company S.A, Joya de Nicaragua, My Father, Nicaraguan American Cigars S.A, Oliva Cigars, Padrón, Pensa, Plasencia, Procenicsa, and Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
As night fell, the traditional White Party began. It was a joyful and traditional Trova Music Night, where guests had the chance
to wear the festival’s official guayabera shirt, produced by Nicaraguan hands.
The fourth day saw further tours, this time of plantations and factories. The day began with a tour of the majestic plantations of the region, engaging directly with the growing process of the tobacco plant. Lunch took place at a site that was a single step away from where talented Nicaraguan hands build cigars.
For the evening, organisers prepared a pleasant talk with Nicaraguan tobacco legends so that guests could learn about the history of the country’s cigar pioneers, new market trends and the economy of the industry.
At night, the fabulous Dinner Gala took place, and it was the ideal showcase for the elegance and pride of Nicaragua’s tobacco industry. There was also an auction for special products designed exclusively for the festival, with the goal of supporting the most needed population of Estelí.
