All the Action from this year’s Procigar festival in the Dominican republic
While many eyes Were on this year’s Festival del habano, cigar lovers from across the world also used the first quarter of 2016 to pay heed to another big event on the cigar calendar—the Procigar Festival. held in February, the festival is organised by the association of Dominican Cigar manufacturers, and allows guests to have one-on-one dialogues with the biggest Dominican cigar makers in the industry.
The festival is something of a memorable experience, combining educational opportunities, entertainment, leisure and, of course, a lot of premium cigar smoking.
This year’s Procigar Festival started in
Punta Cana, where guests could relax at the beach underneath the Dominican Republic’s tropical sunshine. Guests were also given the opportunity to visit the Tabacalera de Garcia cigar factory, as well as indulge in premium cigars during tours and dinners.
The festival then moved on to Santiago de los Caballeros, dubbed by the Dominicans as “the cigar capital of the world”. This leg gave visitors an intimate look at tobacco fields and cigar factories from brands such as General Cigar, Davidoff, Quesada Cigars, La Aurora, De Los Reyes Cigars, Tabacalera La Alianza-ep
Carrillo, La Flor Dominicana, Tabacalera Palma and the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation. Other activities, such as adventurous tours, catamaran sailing, seminars and a charity poker tournament, were also on offer during the Santiago leg.
By night, guests gathered for spectacular gala dinners, premium drinks, delicious local cuisine, cheerful dance and warm, Dominican hospitality—all rounded off with the best premium smokes.
Procigar also hosted a charity auction during the event’s closing dinner. All net proceeds were donated to the Voluntariado de Jesus con los Ninos, a non-profit organisation for ill children, and the Sociedad San Vicente de Paul, a senior retirement home for low-income elders. The Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion also benefitted from the auction.
