The perfect bachelor pad

WHEN IT COMES TO HOMES, A CLEAN SLATE CAN BE DIFFICULT TO CONTEND WITH. BUT WITH A LITTLE GUIDANCE, IT’S POSSIBLE TO CREATE THE PERFECT PAD.

buyers now look at having an ipad in every room, loaded with a simple home control software that controls everything – from the lights and the blinds to the music and TVS – in that room. ‘Global’ ipads are also available, allowing users to control everything within the whole house. Naturally, it’s all fully customisable and set up exactly how the customer wants it. There are also control units that can be installed on the walls, like AC control units are, yet they’re able to adjust various different parts of the house.

“For example, we have an automation unit by Philips Dynalite. You go near it and it lights up. If I go to different zones, I can dim all the lights, I can then do climate control, fan speeds, temperature control. From one switch, I’ve got full control of the whole building,” Burrows says.

“Also, if you press the ‘away’ button, the whole place goes into night-time mode. It controls all of the rooms, so if you were leaving your house, you could press ‘security mode’, and all of the blinds go down, all the lights go off, all the music goes off, all the televisions turn off, and all the AC units are set to what you want - one button by the front door does it. And you have one button when you arrive back; it lets the house know you’re home, and it knows what time of day it is and what your preferred setting is for that moment. It’s all pre-programmed to do exactly what you want.”

Another big technological feature that often appears in perfect homes is the home cinema. Granted, most penthouse apartments – “I always imagine a penthouse apartment when talking about bachelor pads,” says Burrows – don’t have the space for a full-blown cinema room. However, there are plenty of homes in the Middle East that can accommodate private cinemas, and buyers are finding them increasingly popular.

“In quite a lot of cinemas we do, we put the cinema seats at the back and then a big sofa section at the front, so everyone can crash out at the front. And it’s not just for movies, it’s football matches, it’s video games, people streaming movies from their ipads onto the screen. It’s becoming a very, very popular room,” he says.

The company has also just begun a relationship with IMAX so that clients actually have the full IMAX experience in their homes. Another product IMAX offers is called Premiere - which is essentially a movies-on-demand service. But what makes it special is that customers get access to the movies, at home, as soon as they’re released in the cinema in America.

“People who don’t particularly want to go to the movies with everyone else, can sit at home and watch the latest movies the same day it comes out. We think it’s going to be very popular here – we’ve already
