notes, with a fruity char­ac­ter that de­vel­ops with time. The fin­ish is soft and lin­ger­ing.

The evening then moved on to the Sin­gle Berry Sherry Cask, ma­tured ex­clu­sively in a sin­gle Euro­pean oak sherry butt for at least 15 years. The term ‘sin­gle bar­rel’ con­veys a unique na­ture of the ex­pres­sion, which has been drawn from a sin­gle cask of a sin­gle dis­til­la­tion. On the nose, it of­fers a rich com­bi­na­tion of el­e­gant oak and sub­tle spice. The taste is smooth and com­plex with clear hints of dried fruit and spice, over­laid with a gen­tle nut­ti­ness, while the fin­ish is long and sher­ried.

Fi­nally, we sam­pled the Port­wood, which is cre­ated through a mar­riage of rare Bal­ve­nie be­ing trans­ferred to port casks, or pipes, which have held fine port wines. Here it is sam­pled reg­u­larly by the Bal­ve­nie malt mas­ter to ensure that that just the right amount of char­ac­ter is im­parted by the port casks, en­hanc­ing and de­vel­op­ing the sin­gle malt while pre­serv­ing its orig­i­nal char­ac­ter­is­tics. On the nose, it of­fers a per­fume of fruity and ripe raisin notes, backed by a nutty dry­ness. And the taste is re­fined with remarkable char­ac­ter, be­ing creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes. The fin­ish is long, gen­tle and nutty. As men­tioned ear­lier, the two ci­gars we sam­pled are ex­clu­sive to La Casa Del Ha­bano stores, and cer­tainly they both paired well with the whiskies on of­fer.
