A famous fairytale pirouettes into Dubai

-

oldilocks And The Three Bears, the popular fairytale of a mischievous girl with hair as bright as gold, arrives in the UAE this month for a special ballet performance. The 40-minute show from The Northern Ballet group is the perfect opportunity for your little ones to enjoy live ballet, music and theatre for the first time. Abigail Cockrell takes on the starring role…

How did you get into ballet?

I started ballet as just an after-school activity when I was about eight years old. At the time, I didn’t know quite the impact it would have on my life. Soon enough, I fell in love with ballet, pursued a career in it, and now get to work in a field that I absolutely adore.

What kind of training goes into a role like this?

For this role, we had at least one month of rehearsal in order to learn choreography, enhance our quality of movement and really grow into our characters.

How does it feel to be playing the role of Goldilocks?

It’s a lot of fun, and it makes me feel like a young girl again. I also really enjoy the audience reactions in the ballet. Since a lot of children come to see Goldilocks, I can really hear how much they are enjoying the performance as it’s happening.

Goldilocks: criminal or just naïve?

I don’t think that Goldilocks is a criminal at all. I think she is a naïve young girl who is just curious about the world around her. She wants to explore and experience her surroundings.

What are you looking forward to about coming to Dubai?

I love travelling to new countries, experiencing new cultures. I’ve never been to Dubai, or any Middle Eastern country, so I’m really excited to learn more about the culture. November 24 and 25
