Hyundai has launched

the hy­brid ver­sion of its Sonata saloon in the Mid­dle East. The first-ever hy­brid ve­hi­cle the Korean car­maker has brought to the re­gion, the Sonata hy­brid, will ini­tially be avail­able in Jor­dan be­fore go­ing on sale in the rest of the re­gion. Launch­ing the car in Am­man last week, Hyundai’s vice pres­i­dent and head of Mid­dle East re­gional head­quar­ters, Tom Lee, said there is an in­creas­ing aware­ness in the re­gion on lim­it­ing our im­pact on the en­vi­ron­ment, and that the hy­brid model will meet this new de­mand. The 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hy­brid is equipped with a hy­brid drive sys­tem pow­ered by a 199bhp 2.4-litre engine cou­pled with a 30kW elec­tric mo­tor.

The hy­brid Sonata can do up to 120kph on elec­tric power alone and can cover ap­prox­i­mately 16 kilo­me­tres on a sin­gle litre of petrol
