TIME-CRUNCHED TRI,

JUGGLING WORK, FAMILY AND A BUSY LIFESTYLE WITH TRAINING FOR THREE DISCIPLINES? YOU’RE NOT ALONE! BUT HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT BALANCE? OVER TO OUR QUARTET OF TOP AGE-GROUPERS TO FIND OUT…

- ALISON ROWATT

“Being a successful age-grouper brings with it a whole set of logistical challenges. That’s why planning ahead, prioritising and maximising your time is key to getting the most out of yourself on race day.”

Heard the one about the lawyer, civil engineer, optician and sheep farmer? Us neither, but it’s triathletes from these divergent professions that we’ve spoken to this month to seek the ultimate advice on how you can eat, sleep, work and train your way to triathlon success.

The three disciplines of triathlon (four if you count transition practice), as many of you will know, make it an endurance sport like no other. Master the swim and your bike becomes neglected. Focus on the run and your front crawl begins to suffer. Combined with a demanding job or bringing up the kids, and it’s easy to see why multisport careers stagnate, wetsuits remain in cupboards and Ironman dreams forever remain exactly that.

But by heeding the proven advice on routines, sessions, maximising time and minimising injuries from the podium-bothering quartet on the following pages, being downbeat about finding that elusive tri and work balance can be a thing of the past. Welcome to triathlon utopia.
