220 Triathlon Magazine - - KIT ZONE - soarrun

That big ticket price is justified by some impressive statistics on this rain jacket from new British brand Soar: waterproof up to 20,000mm per 24 hours and breathable for 70,000g/m² per 24 hours (granted, that probably means absolutely nothing to you, but google ‘breathability ratings’ and you’ll find that’s pretty good). Weighing in at 144g – and looking a bit shell suit-like straight out of the packaging – we were dubious at first, but running in it is a very different story. For a start, the Ultra jacket doesn’t make that annoying shuffling noise like many lower quality polyester jackets, and it has a really well-crafted, slim-fitting shape. Furthermore, the sleeves have a good tight fit, and the back pocket will easily store a phone, keys and a gel. We personally think it’s too lightweight for sub-zero runs, but with a good base layer underneath this’ll do a fine job for all but the coldest days of what is usually a damp and mild British winter.
