ASHMEI ULTIMATE SOFTSHELL

220 Triathlon Magazine - - KIT ZONE - ashmei.com

Discerning run brand Ashmei, and plenty of others, including our team here, claim Merino wool is far more breathable and soft to the touch than your standard polyester, which is why they’ve strived to layer up super thin weaves of it in their run clothing (38% on this jacket), presumably not an easy or cheap process. Breathable or not, wool is wool, which means you will feel the extra warmth if temperatures approach double figures. The sleeves have clever built-in mittens that are useful for the start of your run to warm the hands, and there are zips on either side of the chest panel you can open up if you want to let some more air in. There’s also a phone-sized pocket with a headphone slot on the front and additional small back pocket, with some reflective details for visibility. Yet we found the offset neck zipper problematic, and it needs to be done right up to stop it flapping around the jawline.
