Visually, the Speed Run looks more like a base layer than a waterproof lightweight. But during our test runs, any rain ran off easily and it felt breathable and lightweight throughout, thanks to the mesh running along the underside of the arms down to the middle of the body. The stretch in the material also gave us great freedom of movement and the dipped hem at the back covers the bum nicely and gives extra protection. The mid-rise collar is comfortable, but with no hood you need to be prepared to face the elements head on. We tested the limelight-stealing ‘Vivid Tangerine’ colour option, but it’s also available in a just-as-lively mint green or indigo. If the colour wasn’t enough to get you seen on dark outings, the reflective details on the arms, back and front of the jacket provide plenty of visibility. Overall, a strong performer at an affordable price.
