PRO BIKE SPEC

Stuart Hayes’ Cervélo P3

-

I bought this bike from Sigma Sport, the reason I choose it was because it’s one of the most aero bikes out there, and ridiculously easy to travel with in a hard case. A lot of the superbikes have to be shipped in bike bags, which is something I’d never consider with all the travelling I do – the bike just wouldn’t survive!

The P3 is very rigid and light – it’s definitely one of the best bikes I’ve ever used. I spoke to many bikes mechanics before I bought it and they all agreed that it was the best because of its simplicity and speed. I’ve been to many events where other athletes have had problems with their electronic gears, so I decided to keep it simple with a mechanical set-up – maybe I’m old school, but it works for me! I’ve done many bike fits over the course of my tri career, but I’ve found that making my own adjustments works the best. For me, it was actually studying images of other riders that helped me find my ideal position. Because I need to be able to run off the bike, some extreme positions really don’t work for my back or hamstrings.

?? ?? 1 My wheels are Zipp 808 NSW on the front and Zipp Super- 9 Discs on the rear – one of the fastest and most aero combinations I’ve ever used. I’ve set 10- and 25-mile PBs with this setup, so I know it works for me. 2My gear set-up is Dura-Ace mechanical, 11-speed. I like to keep it old school! 3 The saddle is an ISM , the great thing about it is that it reduces saddle sores and aches and pains in the groin region, especially in the TT position. 4The storage is pretty simple, yet aero – bottles behind the saddle, on the frame and an aero box on the frame to hold gels.
