Neill Blomkamp goes real-time
OATS Studios’ new short film adam is rendered in real time with Unity
The latest instalment in the ADAM franchise has been created and produced by neill Blomkamp’s Oats studios using unity 2017. The short highlights the advantages of working in an integrated real-time environment to create high-quality graphics at a fraction of the time and cost of a normal film production cycle.
“Ever since i started making films, i’ve dreamed of a virtual sandbox that would let me build, shoot and edit photorealistic worlds all in one place. Today that dream came true thanks to the power of unity 2017,” said Blomkamp, director of District 9 and founder of Oats studios, “the fact that we could achieve near photorealistic visuals at half of average time of our production cycles is astounding. The future is here, and i can’t wait to see what our fans think.”
The first in a series of videos and articles that take you behind the scenes has also been released on unity’s youtube Channel. Further content focused on key technical innovations will be unveiled in the coming months.
“Neill Blomkamp and the Oats team are constantly on the cutting edge of technologies, so it was an honour that they chose to craft their next world within unity,” said Clive downie, CMO of unity technologies. “When we released ‘ADAM’ back in 2016, we meant it as a technical demo to showcase the possibilities of unity, and it’s amazing to see our tools evolve to enable photorealistic, immersive worlds like those that set the scene for ‘ADAM: the Mirror’ and ‘ADAM: the Prophet.’” ‘ADAM: the Mirror’ can be seen on Oats studios’ youtube channel.
The next short in the series is called ‘ADAM: The Prophet’ and will be released in 2017
