Author’s work on benefactor goes on show
THE Haworth Art Gallery is thrilled to be receiving an amazing archive of research material from Joseph Briggs expert, Douglas Jackson, on Thursday, August 6, at 2pm.
Doug has spent more than 60 years as a journalist and writer, working for some of the world’s leading organisations, including Time-Life of America, Kelloggs and British Airways.
His publications include a book to mark Kellogg’s 50th anniversary in Manchester, and with the late Norman Potter, then curator of the Haworth Art Gallery, he co-authored a book on Tiffany.
In 1998 Doug was awarded a travelling fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, to research the life and times of Joseph Briggs in America.
His extensive research and documentation led to the writing and publication of the first book dedicated to Joseph Briggs, ‘Mosaic’, which was launched at the Haworth Art Gallery on June 17. Doug is now donating all of his wonderful research to the Haworth Art Gallery, which will inform and develop future re-displays of the Tiffany Glass collection.
Everyone is invited to come and meet Doug on August 6, and talk to him about his amazing work.
And don’t forget – our new tea room, The Gallery Kitchen, will be open serving light lunches and afternoon tea.
