Caring cadet Joshua wins major award
A ST John Ambulance cadet has won a prestigious award recognising his dedication to people and the environment.
Joshua Holden, of Great Harwood, was presented with the ‘Jane Goodall Most Outstanding Individual’ award for 2017 at an event at the Barbican Centre in London.
In addition to volunteering at the Accrington Cadet Unit, Joshua, 15, recently joined forces with fellow cadet and St Christopher’s pupil Chloe Bonner, from Rishton, to organise a ‘Homeless Sleep-out’.
The event raised over £2,000 for local charities.
Joshua, who was nominated for the award by Wendy Litherland, biology teacher at St Christopher’s, will now be invited to join a Quest Overseas’ team for six weeks in South America or Africa.
Joshua said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to have won the award.
“I’ve been volunteering with St John Ambulance now for about a year and my favourite part is learning First Aid. First aid is a skill for life.”
Carolyn Ridge, unit manager for St John Ambulance in Accrington said: “We are incredibly proud of Joshua, he’s an asset to his community.”
