Church’s call to join in the fun at fes­ti­val

RES­I­DENTS and fam­i­lies are be­ing in­vited to take part in the Bax­en­den Free Com­mu­nity Week­end.

The three-day event is back for a sec­ond year and or­gan­is­ers are aim­ing to show­case the strength of the com­mu­nity and the dif­fer­ent ac­tiv­i­ties and groups on of­fer.

It will be­gin with a free Ceilidh at St John’s Church from 7pm on Fri­day, Septem­ber 8 and is suit­able for all ages.

Rev Tom Don­aghey said: “It’s the sec­ond year we have run it and we are try­ing to get the com­mu­nity more in­volved.”

A free fes­ti­val will take place on St John’s pri­mary school field on Satur­day from 12noon to 4pm and will in­clude a craft tent, bouncy cas­tle, cake dec­o­rat­ing com­pe­ti­tion and ‘old-fash­ioned’ races. Pub teams will also com­pete in a ‘tug of peace’.

The week­end will be rounded off on Sun­day with a ser­vice at St John’s Church at 8am and 10.15am. For more de­tails or to get in­volved an have a gazebo at the fes­ti­val call 01254 396351.
