Big-hearted group raise charity cash

Accrington Observer - - BEFORE THE BENCH -

YOUNGSTERS raised more than £300 for Accrington’s British Heart Foundation shop through a number of fundraising activities.

The group of 14, who were on a Natinal Citizen Service (NCS) summer programme with Accrington Stanley Community Trust, did a 100-mile sponsored cycle on a spin bike.

They raised money on Accrington markets through a cake sale and also set up their own instagram page which they updated throughout their fundraising programme and added a link to their justgiving page which has raised a further £65, bring- ing the overall total to £338.

As well as fundraising the youngsters agreed to volunteer at their local Accrington British Heart Foundation shop.

Team leader Joe Campbell said he was proud of the commitment shown throughout the programme by the young peo- ple. He said: “It was good to see how the youngsters took the lead on it.

“They came up with lots of different ideas and put a lot into it.” The team produced a two-minute campaign video to raise awareness. The film can be found by searching ‘British Heart Foundation NCS’ in YouTube.
