Samantha’s epic swim is £200 charity winner
A TEENAGER has raised more than £200 and counting after completing an epic sponsored 5k swim for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Samantha Barnes, from Accrington, completed 200 lengths of the pool at Half Fish HQ, Daisyfield pools in the 98-minute effort.
The 13-year-old, who is in Year 9 at St Christopher’s CE High School, organised the event herself and has enjoyed lots of support from family, friends and St Paul’s Church, Accrington.
Her incentive was from school giving her the opportunity to take part in the Archbishop of York Award, encouraging the students to make the world a better place to be.
Samantha has been swimming since she was three and has been a member of Accrington Swimming Club since the age of six.
She helps the coaches at her swimming club who are all volunteers and has been helping them for around a year.
Samantha thanked family, friends and the church for their support and donations, and the pool.
