Saman­tha’s epic swim is £200 char­ity win­ner

A TEENAGER has raised more than £200 and count­ing after com­plet­ing an epic spon­sored 5k swim for Macmil­lan Cancer Sup­port.

Saman­tha Barnes, from Ac­cring­ton, com­pleted 200 lengths of the pool at Half Fish HQ, Daisy­field pools in the 98-minute ef­fort.

The 13-year-old, who is in Year 9 at St Christo­pher’s CE High School, or­gan­ised the event her­self and has en­joyed lots of sup­port from fam­ily, friends and St Paul’s Church, Ac­cring­ton.

Her in­cen­tive was from school giv­ing her the op­por­tu­nity to take part in the Arch­bishop of York Award, en­cour­ag­ing the stu­dents to make the world a bet­ter place to be.

Saman­tha has been swim­ming since she was three and has been a mem­ber of Ac­cring­ton Swim­ming Club since the age of six.

She helps the coaches at her swim­ming club who are all vol­un­teers and has been help­ing them for around a year.

Saman­tha thanked fam­ily, friends and the church for their sup­port and do­na­tions, and the pool.
