Accrington Observer - - NEWS -

FIREFIGHTERS were called to deal with flooding incidents as Storm Brian hit the borough.

The ‘weather bomb’ brought heavy rain on the evening of Saturday, October 21 and the River Hyndburn at Milnshaw rose beyond the level of possible flooding from 25cm to 1.16m.

A house on Church Street in Great Harwood was flooded at around 5.40pm, with water affecting the electricity at the property. A Lancashire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The water was entering the property due to blocked drains on the highway. Firefighters attempted to clear the drain and also used a pump to relieve the water level affecting the property. They were at the scene approximately one hour.”

A crew from Padiham spent 90 minutes at a house on Hazel Street in Rising Bridge at 10pm, which was ‘severely affected by flooding’ in the cellar. The spokesperson said: “Crews assisted by pumping water our of the cellar using a mini pump. The occupiers were advised to contact an electrician in case the flood waters had affected the electrics. Crews were in attendance approximately one and a half hours.”
