Shoplifter who stole £1,100 of goods is jailed
A PROLIFIC shoplifter who stole more than £1,100 worth of goods from town centre shops has been jailed.
Kristopher John Murphy targeted four different Accrington stores over a five-month period this year and made off with toiletries, make-up, meat, chocolate and gift sets.
The 29-year-old, of Wellington Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty at Blackburn Magistrates Court to 11 counts of shoplifting and one count of failing to surrender into custody having been released on bail.
He was jailed for a total of 12 weeks.
The court heard how Murphy was a ‘serial shoplifter’ and ‘persistent offender’ and committed the offences while subject to post-custodial sentence supervision.
Murphy stole more than £1,000 worth of items from the Accrington Boots store between September 7 and October 10.
The court heard how he stole numerous cosmetics items on September 7 worth £385 and make-up worth £285 between September 19 and 20.
He then returned to the store on September 30 and stole £140 worth of gift sets and then again on October 10 where he pinched £195.50 worth of toiletries.
Murphy targeted the Tesco Express store in Accrington on four different occasions during September and October.
He stole meat, sliced meat and steaks worth £106 and on a separate occasion made off with chocolate and deodorant.
The defendant stole £14.50 worth of make-up from Lloyds Pharmacy in Accrington on June 15 and then £20 worth of gift sets from the same store on September 22.
His final shoplifting incident was on October 13 where he stole washing up tablets from Asda in Accrington worth £10.
