Housing development set to link two streets
TWO residential streets will finally be connected as part of a 43-home development if planning permission is approved.
Walmsley Avenue and Walmsley Street in Rishton will be formally adopted by Lancashire County Council if Hyndburn council gives the go-ahead to build homes on the former Albert Mill site.
The Observer reported last year how Calico Investments Ltd had submitted plans to build three and four-bed homes on the cleared Albert Mill site as well as land next to Albert Street, next to Rishton Methodist Church and a coach storage depot.
Councillor Ken Moss said if the scheme is approved then the roads will be linked. He said: “This is wonderful news and will come as a great relief to many people on the Southside estate who have wanted this for over 40 years.”
A county council highways letter said: “The land ownership issues appear to have been resolved to enable the link from Walmsley Avenue to Walmsley Street to be formally adopted by highway authority.
“The assessment shows that the redistribution of local traffic will not cause a severe impact upon the highway network or safety.”
