-

school pupils in Church are learning the joy of reading in their revamped library.

The new facility at Sacred Heart RC Primary School was officially opened by MP Graham Jones, who also talked to the children about his role.

The work took four weeks, during which literacy co-ordinator Charlotte Case and librarian Caroline Collinson gave the library a complete facelift.

Shelves were removed and wallpaper stripped, boards were backed and a tree made from chicken wire and paper as a feature for the room.

The books were sorted and new book cases, chairs and a corner seating and storage area were ordered.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) leader Heather Berry said: “We will now be able to offer the children a more pleasant experience when they go to the library to choose books to borrow and read at home with their parents, as the books are better presented and better organised.

“We will also be able to take a class into the library at a set time throughout the week to enjoy story time in there.

“We are hoping that these improvements will foster a love of reading in our children, staff and parents.”
