I write this just two hours after returning from the British Shooting Show and I think I owe you an apology. I read the editor’s test of the Gamo Maxxim Elite multishot break-barrel in the February issue and, quite frankly, I couldn’t see how the selfloading gizmo could work with any sort of reliability. Then I went to the BSS, where I tried the Maxxim Elite, and that’s why I owe you, and Gamo, an apology.
I tried out the rifle on the test range, and I deliberately tried to make it foul up, but it wouldn’t. I put six magazines through the demo rifle, and it launched every pellet perfectly.
Not only did the Maxxim shoot reliably, it shot straight, too; at least it did whenever I took enough time to aim it properly. I was so impressed, I placed an order for one and I can’t wait for it to get here. Well done Gamo and sorry again. Rick Stewart
