Cairn return to form

-

Gartcairn .............. 2 Port Glasgow ........ 1 Gartcairn boss David Greig has praised his players for bouncing back from their Junior Cup exit with a win against title-chasing Port Glasgow.

A Jordan Love double secured a key win for Cairn over the second placed Glasgow outfit just a week after their 7-0 humbling by Linlithgow Rose.

Greig praised the effort of his players: “After being knocked out of the Junior Cup it could have gone two ways.

“The boys’heads could have dropped, or they could keep going. Thankfully they showed what they can do

“It’s a real credit to the boys - I’m delighted for them.

“Port Glasgow are a good team and have shown that all season.

“To be honest we could have scored more, that will be the only disappointment for the boys.

“We want to finish the season as high as possible and that was a good start.”

Cairn will be back on cup duty this weekend as they face Vale of Leven in the Central League Cup.

Greig hopes that the familiarity with their rival Central Division District Two side will hold them in good stead.

“The cup competitions have been good for us - that’s where our best performances have been. We know Vale of Leven well.

“We lost in the league to them a couple of weeks ago, so we know what we are getting. We will be ready for the threat they pose.”
