Plea af­ter tool thefts

Coat­bridge po­lice have is­sued an ap­peal to help trace op­por­tunis­tic thieves re­spon­si­ble for two sep­a­rate tools thefts in the town.

On each oc­ca­sion, the crooks swiped their loot from vans parked on the street and of­fi­cers are keen to speak with any wit­nesses.

The first in­ci­dent oc­curred on Nel­son Av­enue in the Old Mon­k­land area in May.

This was fol­lowed by tool boxes be­ing stolen from a van parked on Bank Street some time be­tween 6.30pm last Wed­nes­day and 7.30am the fol­low­ing morn­ing.

In­spec­tor Louise Brown­lie said:“The vans were both parked on the street and the tools and tool­boxes re­moved from within the ve­hi­cles.

“We would urge any­one with in­for­ma­tion to get in touch with us by call­ing 101, or via Crimestop­pers on 0800 555 111.”

Th­ese two thefts are the lat­est in a se­ries of in­ci­dents where com­mer­cial vans have been bro­ken into in Coat­bridge and In­spec­tor Brown­lie added:“Own­ers of vans are urged to re­move items of value, where pos­si­ble, and en­sure ve­hi­cles are parked se­curely, on drive­ways prefer­ably, and with all doors and win­dows se­cured.”
