Sen­tence de­ferred again on‘un­fit’ driver

Sen­tence has been fur­ther de­ferred on a man who drove in Coat­bridge while “un­fit through drink or drugs”.

Joseph McGinty, 45, also got be­hind the wheel while dis­qual­i­fied from driv­ing – and with­out in­surance – on May 26.

The Glas­gow na­tive was caught by po­lice of­fi­cers on Whif­flet Street and taken into cus­tody at Coat­bridge po­lice of­fice.

McGinty owned up to all three charges at Air­drie Sher­iff Court and was due to be sen­tenced last week.

How­ever, Sher­iff Morag Shank­land chose to de­fer pro­ceed­ings un­til July 12 to “al­low for a psy­chi­atric re­port to be car­ried out”.

The sher­iff also con­tin­ued con­sid­er­a­tion of the Crown’s mo­tion for for­fei­ture of the ve­hi­cle McGinty drove un­til the same date.
