Voyeur teacher’s ad­mits his guilt

A shamed teacher has pled guilty to se­cretly film­ing the pri­vate parts of pupils and young girls at the pri­mary school – which can­not be named for le­gal rea­sons – where he worked.

James Hughes, 5 4 , recorded obliv­i­ous young­sters with his phone and iPad dur­ing out-of-class one-to-one lessons and asked the girls to stand on chairs and put their legs up in the air while he recorded them un­der a desk.

The prin­ci­pal teacher was only caught af­ter teenagers car­ry­ing out work ex­pe­ri­ence dis­cov­ered him film­ing them, and one of the girls re­ported him to the head­teacher af­ter find­ing pho­tos of her­self on his iPad.

Hughes’ school of­fice and Ud­dingston home were searched and po­lice found 260 images and 79 record­ings on his phone and com­put­ers.

He pled guilty to two charges of voyeurism un­der the Sex­ual Of­fences Scot­land Act by se­cretly film­ing and pho­tograph­ing girls aged be­tween eight and 15.

Sher­iff Pe­tra Collins de­ferred sen­tence un­til next month be­fore plac­ing Hughes, who was sus­pended from his post when the al­le­ga­tions came to light, on the sex of­fend­ers’ reg­is­ter.
