Easy way to park ‘n’ pay
New pay and display machines are being installed at Airdrie station car park, to allow users to make card and contactless payments.
The station is one of 20 across the country to receive the upgraded technology, which operators Scotrail say will “eliminate the search for change to pay for car parking”.
Drivers will also be able to pay for parking by phone or via an app; while the new machines will also be able to accept new-style £1 coins and £5 notes.
Ian McConnell of Scotrail Alliance said: “Parking at stations shouldn’t be a hassle; these new and upgraded machines will accept card payments with no minimum spend.
“We’re working hard to improve the experience for our customers every day and this is one small change that we hope will make a big difference for them.”
It was also announced earlier this month that two electric car charging points are to be installed in the station car park.
Meanwhile, a separate 40-space park and ride facility is now under construction at nearby former Alexandra Primary, and is scheduled for completion in March.
