A charity running tea parties for older people in Monklands has been nominated for a prestigious national prize.
Contact the Elderly, which operates across the country, is shortlisted in the community champion category at the annual Great Scot awards.
Now representatives are seeking online support ahead of the public vote closing on Sunday.
Volunteers run monthly afternoon teas for older people; with hosts welcome up to eight guests once or twice per year, and drivers taking them to and from the events.
Morna O’May, the charity’s head of service for Scotland, said: “We were delighted to find out our volunteers had been shortlisted – we were nominated anonymously so it’s a great honour.
“Without our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to break the cycle of social isolation for hundreds of older people who live alone.
“It’s an opportunity to thank our volunteers and for their superb efforts to be recognised, and I hope plenty of them vote.”
