Fam­i­lies tell us what’s in an un­usual kids’ name

Lat­est fig­ures have shown more chil­dren be­ing given un­usual names, with in­flu­ences in­clud­ing char­ac­ters from TV shows and movies such as Game of Thrones and Star Wars.

We asked lo­cal par­ents for their thoughts on baby names.

Julie Rout­ledge, with Kai, 4: “My son’s name was un­usual but it has now be­come pop­u­lar.”

Stacey Cair­ney said: “My daugh­ter is Anais, from The Amaz­ing World of Gum­ball.”

Laura Stel­maszuk, with daugh­ter Ciara, 1: “She’s named af­ter a char­ac­ter from the Lion King.”

Emma Roberts, with Lily-Grace, 11 months: “I pre­fer more nor­mal, tra­di­tional names.”
