Drinks driver in the dock

A man who was almost seven times the drink-driving limit has been disqualified for four years.

Mark Teevan, 51, was caught on the A8 near Shawhead on October 1.

His defence solicitor told Airdrie Sheriff Court last week: “The social work department advises he has been to meetings every night since the offence.

“He feels there is a genuine chance this will prevent reoffending and has been very candid with his employers and is in a position to pay a financial penalty.”

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll told the Bothwell rsident: “This is your second drink-driving offence.

“I give you credit for your candour under the circumstances. However, you’re fortunate the only charge you’re facing is a drink-driving one; this could have been a lot worse.

“I don’t think a custodial sentence is the best option, contrary to the report.

“You are disqualified from driving for four years and will be under supervision for 12 months.

“You will also carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the next nine months.”
