Woman attacked pub worker and partner

- Court reporter

A female yob who assaulted an employee of a Coatbridge pub and attempted to strike him with a glass tumbler will discover her fate later this month.

Sarah Jane Neil, 23, of Southfield Crescent, Greenend, carried out the violent attack at the Innishmohr pub on Main Street, Coatbridge, on August 13.

Airdrie Sherff Court heard last week how Neil, described as a first offender, slapped her victim on the head and then tried to hit him with a glass tumbler.

The rowdy incident then spilled from inside the pub out onto the street; where an emotional Neil turned her attention to her partner, assaulting him by striking him on the head with her hand and then throwing a set of house keys at him.

She pled guilty to both offences and also admitted a third offence which occurred not long after the Innishmohr incident.

On this occasion Neil behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear and alarm at her home address.

The court heard that she was shouting and swearing and uttering threats of violence and acted in an aggressive manner.

The guilty pleas were conveyed to the court by defence solicitor Paul Belardo and confirmed to Sheriff Sara Matheson by Neil, from the dock.

Sheriff Matheson told her:“Because you are a first offender I must obtain background reports on you before sentence.

“I will call for a criminal justice social work report.”

Sentencing was deferred until November 15 and Neil’s bail was continued.
