Ac­tor Iain tread­s­the boards

A Chapel­hall dad is this week tak­ing cen­tre stage in a mu­si­cal pro­duc­tion of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Clin­i­cal psy­chol­o­gist Iain Camp­bell is head­ing a cast of more 20 per­form­ers from the Min­erva Club, who are stag­ing the com­edy of rogu­ish swindlers on the French Riviera, per­form­ing at East­wood Park the­atre in Giffnock un­til Satur­day.

Iain’s am­a­teur dra­mat­ics his­tory has spanned 13 years, and as pres­i­dent of Air­drie and Coat­bridge Am­a­teur Oper­atic So­ci­ety, he re­cently starred in Rock of Ages.

The 40-year-old said: “The part of Lawrence Jamieson was a big draw – he’s a real char­ac­ter with lots of com­edy.

“I ab­so­lutely love the film, to the ex­tent that I could quote parts of it, so I was re­ally in­ter­ested when this show came up with Min­erva. It all just came to­gether, and I’m re­ally en­joy­ing it.”

Based on the 1988 film, it fol­lows Iain’s char­ac­ter, whose rep­u­ta­tion as Europe’s best con­man is threat­ened by younger debonair Freddy, and who bat­tle for af­fec­tions of heiress Chris­tine Col­gate.
