Diamond girls celebrate their season
Airdrie Ladies’ Katie Cameron has thanked the Diamond girls after a maiden season that saw them come within three points of winning the league title.
Airdrie finished off the season with a fantastic 5-2 win over Broxburn at the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to topple Blackburn who finished the season undefeated.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Cameron wrote: “I am extremely proud of the girls and the fight they have put up this season.
“I am proud of the way they have conducted themselves throughout the season on and off the pitch.
“Their professionalism has been second to none and their passion for each game even better.”
She continued: “This season was about building a squad to go and challenge for the league next season.
“I can certainly say we’ve exceeded expectations in that respect.
“We are unbeaten since March and have built a fantastic squad.
“I could not have written a better season.”
Airdrie finished the season on 61 points with only one defeat on the board.
A total of 20 wins brought them agonisingly close to promotion, but the heartbreak didn’t stop the team from celebrating what has been a tremendous campaign.
Katie went on: “What a great day and night we all had.
“There will be some sore heads this morning I’m sure.
“Thanks to everyone involved this season.”
So close Airdrie just missed out on the title
