Monklands employers have been urged to get involved in Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

Skills Development Scotland ( SDS) organises the event – taking place from March 5- 9 – to encourage businesses and companies to take on apprentices.

In Lanarkshire, the local Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) group, has pledged its support.

Ronnie Smith, chair of DYW Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire, said: “We work in collaboration with our colleges, local authorities and schools, all actively engaging with employers and training providers across the region.

“Collectively we are raising awareness of Scottish apprenticeships with young people and parents to increase participation and, ultimately, make Scottish Apprenticeship Week a huge success.”

A new information page on Scottish Apprenticeship Week has been launched on the apprenticeship.scot website.

Latest figures show North Lanarkshire is home to 2900 Modern Apprentices.
