Staff and volunteers at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) furniture and electrical shop welcomed local MP Neil Gray for a tour of the South Bridge Street store.

They told the Airdrie & Shotts representative about the work of the charity’s resale and recycling facility; and of how donations have increased, with sales currently amount to more than £5000 per week.

Mr Gray also met delivery drivers – some of whom travel as far afield as Inverness in the course of their work on behalf of the charity.

He praised the “fantastic facility” and said: “Not only does it help people get quality furnishings when setting up home, it also has a great track record in getting people volunteering and securing jobs.

“I was amazed at the volume of sales this one shop generates and I’m really proud that the people of Airdrie support BHF to such an extent.”
