Maggie’s donations to be doubled
Cancer caring centre Maggie’s is set to benefit from a generous donation from businessman Les Hutchison.
He is running a match-funding challenge which will double funds raised for the Lanarkshire charity from £50,000 to £100,000.
Now supporters and staff at the centre, at University Hospital Monklands, are working on the “extraordinary opportunity”– and have already collected more than £26,000 towards the total.
Paula Elliott tasted success with an impressive fundraising effort – collecting an incredible £6000 after giving up chocolate and alcohol for a month and raising more than 12 times her original target.
Lanarkshire ice rink also raised £5000 for Maggie’s at their 50th anniversary dinner, held at the Radstone Hotel and featuring Andy Cameron as guest speaker.
Board director Marion Craig said: “It was a great success, with curlers attending from all over Lanarkshire.”
Donations handed in via the Maggie’s information stall at Monklands each Tuesday will also be added to the tally. To get involved, email ruth.zokas@maggiescentres. org or call 01236 771191.
