Four Coat­bridge tower blocks are to be re­fur­bished as part of a £50.9 mil­lion in­vest­ment by North La­nark­shire.

Bl a i r g rov e , G l e n , Mer­ry­stone and Mill­brae Courts will ben­e­fit from im­prove­ments in­clud­ing roof re­place­ments and new ex­ter­nal in­su­la­tion.

Coun­cil ten­ants in Gart­ness, Green­gairs and Sals­burgh are also to ben­e­fit from the in­stal­la­tion of new air-source heat pumps as part of the pro­gramme, af­ter suc­cess­ful tri­als of the equip­ment were car­ried out in the off- gas grid Air­drie vil­lages.

The newly- an­nounced im­prove­ments also in­clude re­plac­ing all kitchens and bath­rooms over the next three years and in­stalling new A- rated gas boil­ers, re­plac­ing less ef­fi­cient sys­tems.

Mem­bers of Nor th La­nark­shire’s en­ter­prise and hous­ing com­mit­tee also agreed to al­most dou­ble the in­vest­ment for the coun­cil’s new win­dow re­place­ment pro­gramme; as well as new roof­ing and ren­der­ing, and im­proved in­su­la­tion for the area’s tim­ber stock.

Ex­cited hous­ing con­vener Al­lan Graham com­mented: “Our planned projects will make such a dif­fer­ence to ten­ants.

“For ex­am­ple, in­stalling new high-qual­ity win­dows and more en­ergy-ef­fi­cient heat­ing will help to re­duce heat­ing costs and, in the longer term, help cut heat­ing bills and make homes more com­fort­able to live in.

“We’re com­mit­ted to en­sur­ing all our hous­ing stock is main­tained to the high­est stan­dard and to de­liver a ser­vice that meets the needs of our ten­ants.”
