Refurb at tower blocks
Four Coatbridge tower blocks are to be refurbished as part of a £50.9 million investment by North Lanarkshire.
Bl a i r g rov e , G l e n , Merrystone and Millbrae Courts will benefit from improvements including roof replacements and new external insulation.
Council tenants in Gartness, Greengairs and Salsburgh are also to benefit from the installation of new air-source heat pumps as part of the programme, after successful trials of the equipment were carried out in the off- gas grid Airdrie villages.
The newly- announced improvements also include replacing all kitchens and bathrooms over the next three years and installing new A- rated gas boilers, replacing less efficient systems.
Members of Nor th Lanarkshire’s enterprise and housing committee also agreed to almost double the investment for the council’s new window replacement programme; as well as new roofing and rendering, and improved insulation for the area’s timber stock.
Excited housing convener Allan Graham commented: “Our planned projects will make such a difference to tenants.
“For example, installing new high-quality windows and more energy-efficient heating will help to reduce heating costs and, in the longer term, help cut heating bills and make homes more comfortable to live in.
“We’re committed to ensuring all our housing stock is maintained to the highest standard and to deliver a service that meets the needs of our tenants.”
