Are we really stuck in a rut?

-

Nine in 10 British people claim to be stuck in their own version of Groundhog Day, according to new research.

The study looked at the daily routines of over 1500 adults and discovered the extent that we are creatures of habit, with 67 per cent admitting they were “stuck in a rut”.

And the findings revealed that 22 per cent of people regularly have the same lunch; one in five order the same takeaway on Friday nights; and 21 per cent cook the same meals on rotation each week.

However, food choices are not the only areas where people experience deja vu, with 71 per cent having booked the same holiday more than once, and travelling to their favourite destination up to five times.

Behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings explained: “Over a third of Brits (35 per cent) said that being a creature of habit was just a part of life, and familiarity can be very comforting.”

And the Advertiser asked Coatbridge residents whether they were in agreement.

Emil Clark said: “I’m definitely a creature of habit. I do the same thing every morning.”

But Claire Delahay, from Kirkshaws, was defiant saying: “I’m not one for routine.”
